Washtech UD-R overview
The UD-R comes like a standard Washtech UD: same 570mm footprint, same 500mm rack, touchscreen, three cycles, soft start 0.5HP wash pump and dual chemical pumps. What it adds is a break tank and rinse pump, which assure a good rinse regardless of your water flow, stainless steel wash and rinse arms, and extra heating available for cold water. Fed from an RO system it rinses with pure water, so glasses come out spot free with no polishing. Without RO it can run on hot water like a UD, which makes it the answer for a site where water flow is too low for a standard machine. If you want the same in a fully insulated machine, the Washtech UL is the step up.
Polish free on cold water
Polish free units should be fed cold, because the water has to be cold to pass through the RO system. Cold water is slower to heat up to the 82°C rinse, so the UD-R has extra heating available: it comes on a 15A plug at 2.87kW and can be converted to 25A single phase at 5.37kW or 15A three phase at 7.5kW for faster rinse recovery. The RO system is the Bestaqua BA14-DW14 RO system, sold separately at $2,980 ex GST.
How the Washtech UD-R cleans
Independent stainless steel wash and rinse arms cover the full 500mm rack. Hot Rinse Retention drains dirty wash water during the cycle and replaces it, so dishes are always washed in the hottest, cleanest water available. The rinse water is held in the break tank and pumped through at 82°C, and the cycle will not finish until the rinse has reached sanitising temperature. A stainless steel scrap tray and waste basket give double filtration, and the built-in drain pump empties the machine with no manual draining.
Which Washtech polish free machine do I need?
The GM-R, GL, UD-R and UL all have a break tank and rinse pump, run polish free with an RO system, and can be upgraded to 25A. The GL and UL also come in black stainless as the Washtech GL-B and Washtech UL-B.

Simple to use
The UD-R uses the same professional touchscreen family as the UD and the larger Washtech machines: digital diagnostics, fault alerts on screen, and the cycle, chemical dosing, auto-drain and self-clean settings all in one place. The rack slide tilts for easy loading. The Washtech controls guide explains the touchscreen against the X series push buttons.
Warranty and support

Frequently asked questions
Who makes the Washtech UD-R?
Washtech, in New Zealand. The company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage. Washtech says it is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia, with a range that covers undercounters, passthroughs, warewashers and rack conveyors. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.
How does polish free glasswashing work?
The final rinse is done with pure reverse osmosis water, so there are no minerals or impurities left on the glass to dry into spots and streaks. Glasses come out of the rack ready for the shelf with no hand polishing. The UD-R handles RO water, it does not make it, so it needs the Bestaqua BA14-DW14 RO system, sold separately.
What is the difference between the Washtech UD-R and the Washtech UD?
The UD-R is a UD with a break tank and rinse pump added, so the rinse no longer depends on your water flow, plus the option to upgrade the heating to 25A single phase or 15A three phase. That is what lets it run on cold RO water for polish free. It also has stainless steel wash and rinse arms, and uses 2.4 litres per cycle against 2.2 for the UD. The UD is $600 less ex GST. If you want polish free glasses, or your water flow is poor, the UD-R. If not, the UD.
What is the difference between the Washtech UD-R and the Washtech GL?
The UD-R is the 500mm rack polish free machine with a 0.5HP soft start pump, rated at up to 1,500 glasses or 1,080 plates per hour, so it does plates as well. The GL is the 450mm rack glasswasher, fully insulated with a soft close door. They are within $10 of each other ex GST. If you wash plates or need the bigger rack, the UD-R. If it is glasses behind a bar, the GL.
Can the Washtech UD-R wash plates as well as glasses?
Yes. It is a full 500mm rack dishwasher with a 0.5HP wash pump, rated at up to 1,080 plates per hour, and comes with both a dish rack and a cup rack. Run it polish free for glasses and put plates through it as well.
Does the Washtech UD-R need hot or cold water?
For polish free it must be fed cold, because the water has to be cold to pass through the RO system. It comes set up like a standard UD, so without an RO system it can run on hot water at 65°C, and on a site with a water flow problem that is a good way to use it. Connection is 3/4 inch male at 100 to 500kPa.
What water flow does the Washtech UD-R need?
Washtech asks for 10 litres a minute, half what the UD needs. The break tank and rinse pump assure a good rinse regardless of the flow rate, because the rinse is pumped from the tank rather than run straight off your supply.
Why is there a 25A heating upgrade?
Cold water takes longer to heat to the 82°C rinse. The UD-R comes on a 15A 240V plug (2.87kW), and can be converted to 25A single phase (5.37kW) or 15A three phase (7.5kW) for faster rinse recovery between cycles. Washtech recommends the upgrade if you run it on cold water. Tell us before you order if you want it set up that way. The new supply is a job for your electrician.
Does the Washtech UD-R have a cold rinse option?
No. Polish free works by rinsing with pure water so nothing is left on the glass. A cold rinse after the hot rinse would put ordinary water back on and undo that.
What is soft start?
Soft start powers the wash pump up gradually instead of hitting full power the instant the cycle begins. Because the pump ramps up, fine crockery and delicate glassware stay where you put them in the rack instead of shifting or tipping over, which is where most breakages happen. It is also gentler on the pump.
What rack size does the Washtech UD-R use?
The international standard 500mm x 500mm rack, and it also takes smaller racks down to 365mm. Racks from most other brands fit.
Are detergent and rinse aid pumps included?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are fitted as standard, and the dosing for both is adjusted from the touchscreen.
Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The drain pump is standard, not an extra. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, and auto-drain is set from the touchscreen.
How many racks per hour does the Washtech UD-R wash?
The machine side of the job is 60, 120 or 180 seconds per rack depending on the cycle. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded between cycles, and on cold water with the standard 15A supply the rinse takes longer to recover, so the rated figure of up to 1,500 glasses or 1,080 plates per hour is the ceiling, not a guarantee.
Does the Washtech UD-R need three-phase power?
No. It plugs into a standard 15A 240V single phase outlet. Three phase is an option for faster rinse recovery on cold water, not a requirement.
Will the Washtech UD-R fit under a standard bench?
Yes. At 840mm high it fits under a standard 900mm bench. Leave room nearby for the RO system if you are running it polish free.
What comes with the Washtech UD-R?
The machine, one 500mm dish rack (600 70028), one 500mm cup rack (600 70029), a cutlery container (C660503), and a quick connection kit with all hoses and the 15A plugset. The RO system is sold separately.
How big is the Washtech UD-R packed?
Packed it is 620mm wide, 675mm deep and 940mm high, and weighs 78kg. Check your doorways and any stairs before delivery day.
How much is delivery on the Washtech UD-R?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.
How much does the Washtech UD-R cost to run?
It uses 2.4 litres of water per cycle. The touchscreen also senses if the machine has sat idle for 10 minutes and stops heating, so you are not paying to keep water hot through quiet periods.
Is the Washtech UD-R WaterMark approved?
Yes. The UD-R is WaterMark approved, with an atmospheric vacuum breaker for backflow prevention built in.
What is the Washtech 5-2-2 promise?
It used to be 5-2-1: 5 years on the cabinet, 2 years on the wash pump and 1 year on everything else. Moffat has since lifted the comprehensive cover to 2 years on site parts and labour, so it is now 5-2-2: 5 years on the cabinet, 2 years on the wash pump and 2 years on everything. The wash pump line is now covered by the 2 years on everything anyway, so in plain terms the UD-R has 2 years on site parts and labour on the whole machine, plus 5 years on the cabinet.
Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech UD-R?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price, subject to availability. Ask if you want one and we will check.
