Specifications from the Moffat Australia Washtech UL spec sheet (PDF download). The UL and UL-B share one sheet.

The Washtech UL-B is the black stainless steel version of the Washtech UL, a fully insulated undercounter dishwasher and polish free compatible glasswasher with a soft close door. It takes 500mm racks, washes up to 1,080 plates or 1,500 glasses an hour, uses 2.4L of water per cycle, and has a break tank and rinse pump for an assured rinse. It plugs into a 15A 240V outlet and costs $9,680 ex GST. Made by Washtech in New Zealand, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.

Best for: Front of house bars and open kitchens where the machine is on show and has to match a black fitout, and where it needs to be quiet next to customers.

Washtech UL-B overview

Stainless steel under a bar is fine until the bar is the feature. The UL-B puts a black stainless finish on the outside and leaves everything inside the same as the Washtech UL: same rack, same throughput, same insulation and soft close door, same break tank and rinse pump. If the machine is out of sight in a back kitchen, the stainless UL does the same job for $7,390 ex GST. If you only wash glasses, the Washtech GL-B is the black glasswasher with a 450mm rack.

Polish free on cold water

The UL-B handles RO water but does not make it. To run polish free, it needs the Bestaqua BA14-DW14 RO system ($2,980 ex GST) on the cold water line, and it has to be fed cold for the water to pass through the RO system. Cold water takes longer to heat, so the UL-B can be set up for more power: 3.37kW on the standard 15A plug, 5.37kW on 25A, or 9.0kW on three phase. More power means faster rinse recovery between cycles.

An optional switchable inlet kit lets you change between polish free mode on cold RO water and high capacity mode on a standard hot water feed, so one machine can run either way depending on what you are washing.

How the UL-B cleans

A 0.5HP soft start wash pump drives independent stainless steel wash and rinse arms. The soft start builds pressure gradually, which is easier on stemware. The rinse water is held in the break tank and pumped through at 82°C, so it does not rely on your mains pressure or flow. A heavy-duty stainless steel scrap tray and waste basket catch food scraps, and the sump and drain pump empty the machine with no manual draining.

Which black Washtech do I need?

Washtech makes two machines in black stainless, the GL-B and the UL-B. Both are insulated, run polish free with an RO system, and can be upgraded to 25A. The stainless UL is here for price comparison.

Simple to use

The touchscreen puts cycle selection and chemical settings in one place, and EcoPower drops temperatures and power use if the machine sits idle. The tilting rack slide makes loading easier. The Washtech controls guide explains the touchscreen against the X series push buttons.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes the Washtech UL-B?
Washtech, in New Zealand. Washtech says the company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage, and is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia. Moffat distributes and services Washtech machines in Australia.

Is the UL-B the same machine as the UL?
Yes. The only difference is the black stainless steel finish. Rack, throughput, insulation, rinse system, power options and dimensions are all the same as the stainless Washtech UL, which is $7,390 ex GST.

What is the difference between the Washtech UL-B and the GL-B?
Both are black, fully insulated and polish free compatible. The Washtech GL-B is a glasswasher with a 450mm rack and up to 960 glasses an hour. The UL-B takes 500mm racks, handles plates as well as glasses, and does up to 1,500 glasses an hour.

Does the UL-B make glasses polish free on its own?
No. The UL-B is built to run on RO water, with a break tank and rinse pump, but it does not treat the water itself. You need the Bestaqua BA14-DW14 RO system on the cold water line feeding it. That is $2,980 ex GST.

What does the switchable inlet kit do?
It is an upgrade kit that lets you switch the UL-B between two modes on demand: polish free mode on cold RO water, or high capacity mode on a standard hot water feed. Without it, the machine is plumbed to run one way. Just let us know if you want it with your order.

Can the UL-B wash both dishes and glasses?
Yes. It comes with a 500mm dish rack and a 500mm cup rack, and the tilting rack slide takes racks from 365mm up to 500mm. The stainless steel scrap tray and waste basket catch food scraps from plates.

Does the UL-B need hot or cold water?
It runs on anything from 20 to 65°C. For polish free glasses it has to be fed cold, because the water must pass through the RO system first. On hot water it runs as a standard high capacity machine. The connection is 3/4 inch male with the hose supplied, at 100 to 500kPa.

What water flow does the UL-B need?
The spec sheet calls for 10 litres a minute. The rinse comes from the break tank through the rinse pump, so the rinse is assured even if your water flow or pressure is poor.

Why upgrade the UL-B to 25A or three phase?
Cold water takes longer to heat. On the standard 15A plug the UL-B draws up to 3.37kW. A 25A supply takes it to 5.37kW and three phase to 9.0kW, so the rinse recovers faster between cycles. Tell us before ordering if you want it set up for 25A or three phase. The new power supply is a job for your electrician.

Does the UL-B have a cold rinse option?
No. Polish free works by rinsing with pure water so nothing is left on the glass, and a cold rinse after the hot rinse would undo that.

How many racks an hour will the UL-B do?
It is rated at up to 1,080 plates or 1,500 glasses an hour. That is the ceiling. Loading and unloading takes time, so real numbers depend on your staff. On cold water with a 15A supply, the rinse recovers more slowly between cycles.

Does the UL-B have a drain pump?
Yes. It has a sump and drain pump with a 25mm flexi hose, so it empties itself with no gravity drain needed.

Will the UL-B fit under a 900mm bench?
Yes. It is 840mm high, 597mm wide and 600mm deep, so it fits under a standard 900mm bench. Check the gap is at least 597mm wide.

Does the UL-B have detergent and rinse aid pumps?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are built in, so detergent and rinse aid are dosed automatically every cycle.

What comes with the Washtech UL-B?
1 x 500mm dish rack (600 70028), 1 x 500mm cup rack (600 70029), 1 x cutlery container (C660503), and a quick connection kit with all hoses and a 15A plug set.

What is the packed size and weight of the UL-B?
Packed, it is 620mm wide, 675mm deep and 940mm high, and weighs 78kg. The packed volume is 0.39m³.

Is the Washtech UL-B WaterMark approved?
Yes. It has WaterMark approved backflow prevention, using an atmospheric vacuum breaker.

How much is delivery on the Washtech UL-B?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.

Do you have scratch and dent Washtech machines?
Sometimes. These are Moffat units with freight damage or ex-display stock, subject to availability. Ask us if there is a UL-B available.
