Washtech GL overview
The GL is the insulated step up from the Washtech GM-R. It has the same 450mm rack, touchscreen, three cycles, 0.3HP soft start wash pump, break tank and rinse pump, and adds full thermal and acoustic insulation, a soft close door and stainless steel wash and rinse arms. Fed from an RO system it rinses with pure water, so glasses come out spot free with no polishing. Without RO it runs on hot water in high capacity mode, and the optional switchable inlet kit lets you change between the two. It is also available in black stainless steel as the Washtech GL-B.
Polish free on cold water
Polish free units should be fed cold, because the water has to be cold to pass through the RO system. Cold water is slower to heat up to the 82°C rinse, so the GL has extra heating available: it comes on a 15A plug at 3.25kW and can be converted to 25A single phase at 5.25kW or 15A three phase at 9kW for faster rinse recovery. The RO system is the Bestaqua BA14-DW14 RO system, sold separately at $2,980 ex GST.
How the Washtech GL cleans
Independent stainless steel wash and rinse arms cover the 450mm rack. The 0.3HP soft start wash pump ramps up rather than hitting the glasses at full power. The rinse water is held in the break tank and pumped through at 82°C, and the cycle will not finish until the rinse has reached sanitising temperature. The stainless steel filter basket catches scraps, and the drain pump empties the tank at the end of service.
Which Washtech polish free machine do I need?
The GM-R, GL, UD-R and UL all have a break tank and rinse pump, run polish free with an RO system, and can be upgraded to 25A. The GL and UL also come in black stainless as the Washtech GL-B and Washtech UL-B.

Simple to use
The GL uses the same professional touchscreen family as the larger Washtech machines: cycle selection, chemical dosing, auto-drain and self-clean settings all on one screen, with fault alerts in plain words rather than a blinking light. It suits bars with staff turnover, because there is nothing to learn beyond pressing the cycle you want. The Washtech control families are explained in our Washtech controls guide.
Warranty and support
2 years on site parts and labour by Moffat Australia nationwide, with a national service network and spare parts stocked locally. Full details on our warranty page.
Frequently asked questions
Who makes the Washtech GL?
Washtech, in New Zealand. Washtech says the company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage, and is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia. Moffat distributes and services Washtech machines in Australia.
How does polish free glasswashing work?
The final rinse is done with pure reverse osmosis water, so there are no minerals or impurities left on the glass to dry into spots and streaks. Glasses come out of the rack ready for the shelf with no hand polishing. The GL handles RO water, it does not make it, so it needs the Bestaqua BA14-DW14 RO system, sold separately at $2,980 ex GST.
What is the difference between the Washtech GL and the Washtech GM-R?
Both are 450mm rack polish free glasswashers with a break tank and rinse pump, touchscreen, three cycles and a 0.3HP soft start wash pump. The GL adds full thermal and acoustic insulation and a soft close door, so it is quieter and puts less heat into the bar, and stainless steel wash and rinse arms. It is 27mm wider and 60mm taller, and the three phase upgrade goes to 9kW against 7.5kW. The GM-R is $1,110 less ex GST. If noise and heat behind the bar matter, the GL. If not, the GM-R.
What is the difference between the Washtech GL and the Washtech UD-R?
The UD-R is the 500mm rack polish free machine with a 0.5HP soft start pump, rated at up to 1,500 glasses or 1,080 dishes per hour, so it takes plates as well. The GL is the 450mm rack glasswasher, fully insulated with a soft close door. They are within $10 of each other ex GST. If you wash plates or need the bigger rack, the UD-R. If it is glasses behind a bar, the GL.
Is the Washtech GL available in black?
Yes, as the Washtech GL-B in black stainless steel. It is the same machine with a different finish.
Does the Washtech GL need hot or cold water?
It takes water from 20 to 65°C, so either works. For polish free it must be fed cold, because the water has to be cold to pass through the RO system. Without an RO system it can run on hot water, which Washtech calls high capacity mode. Connection is 3/4 inch male at 100 to 500kPa.
What does the switchable inlet kit do?
It is an optional upgrade kit that lets the GL switch between polish free mode on cold RO water and high capacity mode on a standard hot water feed, so you are not locked into one or the other. Just let us know if you want it with your order.
What water flow does the Washtech GL need?
Washtech asks for 10 litres a minute, half what a standard machine needs. The break tank and rinse pump assure a good rinse regardless of the flow rate, because the rinse is pumped from the tank rather than run straight off your supply.
Why is there a 25A heating upgrade?
Cold water takes longer to heat to the 82°C rinse. The GL comes on a 15A 240V plug (3.25kW), and can be converted to 25A single phase (5.25kW) or 15A three phase (9kW) for faster rinse recovery between cycles. Washtech recommends the upgrade if you run it on cold water. Tell us before you order if you want it set up that way. The new supply is a job for your electrician.
Does the Washtech GL have a cold rinse option?
No. Polish free works by rinsing with pure water so nothing is left on the glass. A cold rinse after the hot rinse would put ordinary water back on and undo that.
Is the Washtech GL quiet?
Yes. Full thermal and acoustic insulation keeps the noise and the heat inside the machine, and the soft close door stops it banging shut on a busy bar.
What is soft start?
Soft start powers the wash pump up gradually instead of hitting full power the instant the cycle begins. Because the pump ramps up, stemware and delicate glasses stay where you put them in the rack instead of shifting or tipping over, which is where most breakages happen. It is also gentler on the pump.
Does the Washtech GL dispense chemicals?
Yes. Built in detergent and rinse aid pumps, with the dosage adjusted from the touchscreen.
What rack size does the Washtech GL use?
The tilting rack slide takes any rack from 365mm up to 450mm x 450mm. A 450mm cup rack and a 450mm dish rack are supplied.
Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The drain pump is standard, not an extra. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, and auto-drain is set from the touchscreen.
How many racks per hour does the Washtech GL wash?
The machine side of the job is 60, 120 or 180 seconds per rack depending on the cycle. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded between cycles, and on cold water with the standard 15A supply the rinse takes longer to recover, so the rated figure of up to 960 glasses per hour is the ceiling, not a guarantee.
Will the Washtech GL fit under a bar?
At 527mm wide, 600mm deep and 840mm high it fits under a standard 900mm bench. Leave room nearby for the RO system if you are running it polish free.
What comes with the Washtech GL?
The machine, one 450mm cup rack (600 70080), one 450mm dish rack (600 70081), a cutlery container (C660503), and a quick connection kit with all hoses and the 15A plugset. Detergent and rinse aid pumps are fitted. The RO system is sold separately.
How big is the Washtech GL packed?
Packed it is 560mm wide, 650mm deep and 875mm high, and weighs 71kg. Check your doorways and any stairs before delivery day.
How much is delivery on the Washtech GL?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.
How much does the Washtech GL cost to run?
It uses 2.4 litres of water per cycle, and the insulation holds the heat in. The touchscreen also senses if the machine has sat idle for 10 minutes and stops heating, so you are not paying to keep water hot through quiet periods.
Is the Washtech GL WaterMark approved?
Yes. The GL is WaterMark approved, with an atmospheric vacuum breaker for backflow prevention built in.
What is the Washtech 5-2-2 promise?
It used to be 5-2-1: 5 years on the cabinet, 2 years on the wash pump and 1 year on everything else. Moffat has since lifted the comprehensive cover to 2 years on site parts and labour, so it is now 5-2-2: 5 years on the cabinet, 2 years on the wash pump and 2 years on everything. The wash pump line is now covered by the 2 years on everything anyway, so in plain terms the GL has 2 years on site parts and labour on the whole machine, plus 5 years on the cabinet.
Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech GL?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price, subject to availability. Ask if you want one and we will check.
