Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.
Best for: Pubs, wine bars, cocktail bars and restaurants that want glasses straight from the rack to the shelf with no hand polishing, or a GM on a site where water flow is a problem.
Washtech GM-R overview
The GM-R comes like a standard Washtech GM: same 500mm x 780mm footprint, same 450mm rack, touchscreen, three cycles, soft start wash pump and dual chemical pumps. What it adds is a break tank and rinse pump, which assure a good rinse regardless of your water flow, and extra heating available for cold water. Fed from an RO system it rinses with pure water, so glasses come out spot free with no polishing. Without RO it can run on hot water like a GM, which makes it the answer for a site where water flow is too low for a standard machine.
Polish free on cold water
Polish free units should be fed cold, because the water has to be cold to pass through the RO system. Cold water is slower to heat up to the 82°C rinse, so the GM-R has extra heating available: it comes on a 15A plug at 2.75kW and can be converted to 25A single phase at 5.25kW or 15A three phase at 7.5kW for faster rinse recovery. The RO system is the Bestaqua BA14-DW14 RO system, sold separately.
How the Washtech GM-R cleans
Independent wash and rinse arms cover the 450mm rack. The 0.3HP soft start wash pump ramps up rather than hitting the glasses at full power. The rinse water is held in the break tank and pumped through at 82°C, and the cycle will not finish until the rinse has reached sanitising temperature. The stainless steel filter basket catches scraps, and the drain pump empties the tank at the end of service.
Which Washtech polish free machine do I need?
The GM-R, GL, UD-R and UL all have a break tank and rinse pump, run polish free with an RO system, and can be upgraded to 25A. The GL and UL also come in black stainless as the Washtech GL-B and Washtech UL-B.

Simple to use
The GM-R uses the same professional touchscreen family as the GM and the larger machines: cycle selection, chemical dosing, auto-drain and self-clean settings all on one screen, with fault alerts in plain words rather than a blinking light. It suits bars with staff turnover, because there is nothing to learn beyond pressing the cycle you want. The Washtech control families are explained in our Washtech controls guide.

Frequently asked questions
Who makes the Washtech GM-R?
Washtech, in New Zealand. The company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage. Washtech says it is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia, with a range that covers undercounters, passthroughs, warewashers and rack conveyors. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.
How does polish free glasswashing work?
The final rinse is done with pure reverse osmosis water, so there are no minerals or impurities left on the glass to dry into spots and streaks. Glasses come out of the rack ready for the shelf with no hand polishing. The GM-R handles RO water, it does not make it, so it needs the Bestaqua BA14-DW14 RO system, sold separately.
What is the difference between the Washtech GM-R and the Washtech GM?
The GM-R is a GM with a break tank and rinse pump added, so the rinse no longer depends on your water flow, plus the option to upgrade the heating to 25A single phase or 15A three phase. That is what lets it run on cold RO water for polish free glasswashing. It uses 2.4 litres per cycle against 2.2 for the GM. The GM has selectable cold rinse; the GM-R does not. If you want polish free glasses, or your water flow is poor, the GM-R. If not, the GM.
Does the Washtech GM-R need hot or cold water?
For polish free it must be fed cold, because the water has to be cold to pass through the RO system. It comes set up like a standard GM, so without an RO system it can run on hot water at 65°C, and on a site with a water flow problem that is a good way to use it. Connection is 3/4 inch male at 100 to 350kPa.
What water flow does the Washtech GM-R need?
Washtech asks for 10 litres a minute, half what the GM needs. The break tank and rinse pump assure a good rinse regardless of the flow rate, because the rinse is pumped from the tank rather than run straight off your supply.
Why is there a 25A heating upgrade?
Cold water takes longer to heat to the 82°C rinse. The GM-R comes on a 15A 240V plug (2.75kW), and can be converted to 25A single phase (5.25kW) or 15A three phase (7.5kW) for faster rinse recovery between cycles. Washtech recommends the upgrade if you run it on cold water. Tell us before you order if you want it set up that way. The new supply is a job for your electrician.
Does the Washtech GM-R have a cold rinse option?
No. Polish free works by rinsing with pure water so nothing is left on the glass. A cold rinse after the hot rinse would put ordinary water back on and undo that.
What is soft start?
Soft start powers the wash pump up gradually instead of hitting full power the instant the cycle begins. Most machines switch the pump straight on at full power, which sends a surge of water through the chamber at the start of every cycle. Soft start lets the pump pressurise slowly.
What is the advantage of soft start on a glasswasher?
Because the pump ramps up, stemware and delicate glasses stay where you put them in the rack instead of shifting or tipping over, which is where most breakages happen. It is also gentler on the machine: no jolt at the start of every cycle, and a longer life for the pump.
Does the Washtech GM-R dispense chemicals?
Yes. Built in detergent and rinse aid pumps, with the dosage adjusted from the touchscreen.
What rack size does the Washtech GM-R use?
The rack adapter takes any rack from 365mm up to 450mm x 450mm. A 450mm cup rack and a 450mm dish rack are supplied.
Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The drain pump is standard, not an extra. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, and auto-drain is set from the touchscreen.
How many racks per hour does the Washtech GM-R wash?
The machine side of the job is 60, 120 or 180 seconds per rack depending on the cycle. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded between cycles, and on cold water with the standard 15A supply the rinse takes longer to recover, so the rated figure of up to 960 glasses per hour is the ceiling, not a guarantee.
Will the Washtech GM-R fit under a bar?
At 500mm wide, 600mm deep and 780mm high it fits under a standard 900mm bench with room to spare. Leave room nearby for the RO system if you are running it polish free.
What comes with the Washtech GM-R?
The machine, one 450mm cup rack (600 70080), one 450mm dish rack (600 70081), a cutlery container (C660503), and a quick connection kit with all hoses and the 15A plugset. Detergent and rinse aid pumps are fitted. The RO system is sold separately.
How big is the Washtech GM-R packed?
Packed it is 560mm wide, 650mm deep and 915mm high, and weighs 57kg. Check your doorways and any stairs before delivery day.
How much is delivery on the Washtech GM-R?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.
How much does the Washtech GM-R cost to run?
It uses 2.4 litres of water per cycle. The touchscreen also senses if the machine has sat idle for 10 minutes and stops heating, so you are not paying to keep water hot through quiet periods.
Is the Washtech GM-R WaterMark approved?
Yes. The GM-R is WaterMark approved, with an atmospheric vacuum breaker for backflow prevention built in.
What is the Washtech 5-2-2 promise?
It used to be 5-2-1: 5 years on the cabinet, 2 years on the wash pump and 1 year on everything else. Moffat has since lifted the comprehensive cover to 2 years on site parts and labour, so it is now 5-2-2: 5 years on the cabinet, 2 years on the wash pump and 2 years on everything. The wash pump line is now covered by the 2 years on everything anyway, so in plain terms the GM-R has 2 years on site parts and labour on the whole machine, plus 5 years on the cabinet.
Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech GM-R?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price, subject to availability. Ask if you want one and we will check.
