The Washtech GM commercial glasswasher is the touchscreen undercounter glasswasher in the Washtech range. 500mm wide, 450mm x 450mm rack, up to 960 glasses per hour, 2.2 litres of water per cycle, 82°C sanitising rinse, colour touchscreen controls and a soft start wash pump. It doubles as a dishwasher for light crockery. 15A 240V plug in. $4,490 ex GST. Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.

Best for: Busy pubs, wine bars, cafes, clubs and restaurants that want one machine for glasses and light crockery, with touchscreen controls any staff member can run and a soft start pump that stops glasses tipping in the rack.

Washtech GM overview

The GM is the glasswasher version of the touchscreen Washtech family, built on the same 500mm x 780mm footprint as the push-button Washtech XV. It takes any rack from 365mm up to 450mm, runs three cycles, and adds the things a busy bar wants: a soft start wash pump so fine glassware stays put, chemical dosing set from the screen, selectable cold rinse, auto-drain and self-clean. It uses 2.2 litres of water per cycle, and if it sits idle for 10 minutes it stops heating to save power. If the bar is smaller, the Washtech XG and Washtech GE are the 440mm options.

New generation Washtech GM

The current GM has a new filter system. The old sump has been replaced by a wide wash and drain intake with a stainless steel basket that lifts out and washes clean in seconds. The drain upstand is gone, so draining is hands-free with nothing to pull. The old LCD display with its membrane has been replaced with an easy to read colour touchscreen. The rack adapter now sits at a slight tilt, so any water pooling in the base of an upturned glass runs off before the rack comes out.

How the Washtech GM cleans

Independent wash and rinse arms cover the 450mm rack. The 0.3HP soft start wash pump ramps up rather than hitting the glasses at full power, then the rinse is 82°C assured, meaning the cycle will not finish until the rinse water has reached sanitising temperature. The stainless steel filter basket catches scraps, and the drain pump empties the tank at the end of service. With the cold rinse option on, a final cold spray cools the glasses so they can go straight back on the bar.

Which Washtech glasswasher do I need?

All four are single phase 15A plug in machines with an 82°C rinse. The differences are whether the machine has a wash pump, rack size, water use, controls and whether it can do plates as well.

Simple to use

The GM uses the same professional touchscreen family as the Washtech UD and the larger machines: cycle selection, chemical dosing, auto-drain and self-clean settings all on one screen, with fault alerts in plain words rather than a blinking light. Who makes the Washtech GM?
Washtech, in New Zealand. The company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage. Washtech says it is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia, with a range that covers undercounters, passthroughs, warewashers and rack conveyors. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.

Can the Washtech GM be used as a dishwasher as well as a glasswasher?
Yes. The GM handles both glassware and light crockery, and comes with a 450mm dish rack as well as the cup rack. For a kitchen washing full dinner plates all service, the Washtech XV on the same footprint is the dishwasher version.

What is the difference between the Washtech GM and the Washtech XG?
The GM is the step up: 500mm wide with a 450mm rack, up to 960 glasses per hour, three cycles, touchscreen controls and a soft start pump. The XG is 440mm wide with a 365mm rack, up to 540 glasses per hour, push button, and $1,410 less ex GST. If the bar is busy or you want one machine for glasses and plates, the GM. If space and budget are tight, the XG.

What is the difference between the Washtech GM and the Washtech XV?
Same footprint, same 450mm rack, same 2.2 litres per cycle. The GM is set up as a glasswasher: touchscreen, three cycles, soft start pump, selectable cold rinse, chemical dosing from the screen. The XV is the push-button dishwasher with a 0.5HP pump for plates. If glasses are most of the work, the GM. If plates are, the XV, and it is $200 less ex GST.

What is soft start?
Soft start powers the wash pump up gradually instead of hitting full power the instant the cycle begins. Most machines switch the pump straight on at full power, which sends a surge of water through the chamber at the start of every cycle. Soft start lets the pump pressurise slowly. All Washtech touchscreen models have it.

What is the advantage of soft start on a glasswasher?
Because the pump ramps up, stemware and delicate glasses stay where you put them in the rack instead of shifting or tipping over, which is where most breakages happen. It is also gentler on the machine: no jolt at the start of every cycle, and a longer life for the pump.

What is the cold rinse option?
A selectable final cold spray at the end of the cycle that cools the glasses so they can go straight back on the bar for beer service. It needs a cold water feed to the machine as well as the hot.

Does the Washtech GM dispense chemicals?
Yes. Built in detergent and rinse aid pumps, with the dosage adjusted from the touchscreen. At the back of the machine are two tubes, coiled and tied: the clear tube is marked detergent and the blue tube is marked rinse aid. Both are weighted and fitted with a filter, so they drop straight into the drums.

What rack size does the Washtech GM use?
The rack adapter takes any rack from 365mm up to 450mm x 450mm. A 450mm cup rack and a 450mm dish rack are supplied.

Does the Washtech GM need a hot water connection?
Hot water at 65°C is the ideal supply, through a 3/4 inch male connection at 200 to 500kPa. The GM will run on cold water, it just has to do more of the heating itself, so cycles take longer to reach the 82°C rinse. Drain is a 25mm flexi hose from the built-in drain pump.

What water flow does the Washtech GM need?
The GM has no rinse pump, so the rinse relies on your water supply. Washtech recommends 20 litres a minute for a good rinse. In practice it works on a lot less. There is no rinse booster pump option for this model, so if flow is a problem, look at the Washtech GM-R or GL, which have a break tank and rinse pump that assure a good rinse regardless of the flow rate.

Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The drain pump is standard, not an extra. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, and auto-drain is set from the touchscreen.

How many racks per hour does the Washtech GM wash?
The machine side of the job is 60, 120 or 180 seconds per rack depending on the cycle. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded between cycles, so the rated figure of up to 960 glasses per hour is the ceiling, not a guarantee.

Does the Washtech GM need three-phase power?
No. It plugs into a standard 15A 240V single phase outlet.

Does the Washtech GM need a specialist to install?
No. It is plug and play with everything needed supplied, no commissioning required out of the box.

Will the Washtech GM fit under a bar?
At 500mm wide, 600mm deep and 780mm high it fits under a standard 900mm bench with room to spare.

What comes with the Washtech GM?
The machine, one 450mm cup rack (600 70080), one 450mm dish rack (600 70081), a cutlery container (C660503), a quick connection kit with all hoses and the 15A plugset, and the user and maintenance guide. Detergent and rinse aid pumps are fitted.

How big is the Washtech GM packed?

How much does the Washtech GM cost to run?
It uses 2.2 litres of water per cycle. The touchscreen also senses if the machine has sat idle for 10 minutes and stops heating, so you are not paying to keep water hot through quiet periods.

Is a polish-free version available?
Yes. The Washtech GM-R is the polish-free version for bars with a reverse osmosis water system. It washes in RO water so glasses come out without spots and without hand polishing. The GM-R handles RO water, it does not make it, so an RO unit is needed separately.

Is the Washtech GM WaterMark approved?
Yes. The GM is WaterMark approved, with an atmospheric vacuum breaker for backflow prevention built in.

What is the Washtech 5-2-2 promise?
It used to be 5-2-1: 5 years on the cabinet, 2 years on the wash pump and 1 year on everything else. Moffat has since lifted the comprehensive cover to 2 years on site parts and labour, so it is now 5-2-2: 5 years on the cabinet, 2 years on the wash pump and 2 years on everything. The wash pump line is now covered by the 2 years on everything anyway, so in plain terms the GM has 2 years on site parts and labour on the whole machine, plus 5 years on the cabinet.

Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech GM?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price, subject to availability. Ask if you want one and we will check.
