The Washtech GE commercial glasswasher is a compact undercounter glasswasher for small bars and cafes. 440mm wide, 365mm x 435mm rack, up to 540 glasses per hour on a one minute cycle, 82°C sanitising rinse, push button controls, 15A 240V plug in. It has no wash tank, wash pump or drain pump: it washes on mains water pressure and drains by gravity. $2,890 ex GST. Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.

Best for: Small cafes and wine bars with low glass volumes that want a simple, low maintenance glasswasher at the lowest price in the Washtech range, and have hot water at mains pressure to feed it.

Washtech GE overview

The GE is the entry point to the Washtech glasswasher range and the simplest machine Washtech makes. Unlike the Washtech XG, Washtech GM and Washtech XV, it has no wash tank and no wash pump. It sprays fresh hot water from your supply over the glasses, rinses through its own boiler at 82°C, and lets the water run out a gravity drain, exactly like a sink. That cuts out the daily tank drain and clean, but it uses 4.5 litres of hot water per cycle against 1.5 litres for the XG, and has very little wash power, so it is a glasswasher, not a dishwasher.

How the Washtech GE cleans

The whole cycle is one minute. The first 30 seconds sprays clean hot water from your supply over the glasses, with detergent drawn in by the inbuilt injector. The next 15 seconds rinses through the boiler at 82°C, which is what sanitises the glasses and lets them air dry without a cloth. The last 15 seconds either times out, or if the cold rinse option is switched on, sprays cold water from the top to cool the glasses so they can go straight back on the bar. Because there is no wash tank, every glass is washed in fresh water, not water from the last rack.

Which Washtech glasswasher do I need?

All four are single phase 15A plug in machines with an 82°C rinse. The differences are whether the machine has a wash pump, rack size, water use, controls and whether it can do plates as well.

Simple to use

Push button controls and one cycle. Turn it on, load the rack, press start. There is no wash tank to fill at the start of service or drain and clean at the end, which is most of the daily work on a recirculating glasswasher. Who makes the Washtech GE?
Washtech, in New Zealand. The company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage. Washtech says it is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia, with a range that covers undercounters, passthroughs, warewashers and rack conveyors. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.

What is the difference between the Washtech GE and the Washtech XG?
Same 440mm footprint, same 365mm x 435mm rack, same 540 glasses per hour, same push buttons. The XG has a wash tank, a wash pump and a drain pump, so it recirculates water, uses 1.5 litres per cycle instead of 4.5, drains hands-free, and can handle light crockery. The GE has none of those parts, drains by gravity, needs nothing cleaned out at the end of the night, and is $190 less ex GST. If you only wash glasses and want the least maintenance, the GE. If you want to put cups and small plates through it, the XG.

Can the Washtech GE be used as a dishwasher?
No, not really. Without a wash pump it has very little wash power, so it will not shift food off plates. If cups and dishes are already clean it will sanitise them, and the 82°C rinse helps them dry without a cloth.

What rack size does the Washtech GE use?
A 365mm x 435mm rack, the standard size for most Australian bar glass racks. One is supplied with the machine.

How does the Washtech GE drain?
By gravity through a 40mm (1.5 inch BSP) drain outlet, exactly like a sink. The GE is the only Washtech glasswasher or dishwasher without a drain pump, so a 40mm S trap has to be fitted and the drain point needs to be below the machine outlet. That usually needs a plumber or handyman.

Does the Washtech GE need a hot water connection?
Yes. Because there is no wash tank or heater for the wash, the GE washes with the hot water you feed it, ideally 65°C, through a 3/4 inch male connection at 200 to 500kPa. It uses 4.5 litres of hot water per cycle. The rinse goes through the machine's own boiler to reach 82°C.

What water flow does the Washtech GE need?
Close to 20 litres a minute. The GE has no wash pump and no rinse pump, so both the wash and the rinse run on your water supply, and there is no rinse booster pump option for this model. If flow is a problem, look at the Washtech GM-R or GL, which have a break tank and rinse pump that assure a good rinse regardless of the flow rate.

What is the cold rinse option?
A selectable final 15 seconds of the cycle that sprays cold water over the glasses to cool them, so they can go straight back on the bar instead of sitting to cool. Switch it on for beer glasses, leave it off if you would rather the glasses air dry from the hot rinse.

Does the Washtech GE dispense detergent?
Yes. The inbuilt injector draws detergent into the water during the 30 second wash.

Does the Washtech GE need commissioning?
No. It is quick-connect with everything supplied and ready to use out of the box. Connect the hot water, fit the 40mm S trap to the drain, plug it in, and it is running.

How many racks per hour does the Washtech GE wash?
The machine side of the job is 60 seconds per rack. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded between cycles, so the rated figure of up to 540 glasses per hour is the ceiling, not a guarantee.

Does the Washtech GE need three-phase power?
No. It plugs into a standard 15A 240V single phase outlet.

Will the Washtech GE fit under a bar?
At 440mm wide, 520mm deep and 780mm high on its 150mm legs it fits under a standard 900mm bench with room to spare. The legs screw on and adjust. For plinth installation, optional feet bring it down to 635mm high.

Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech GE?
