Washtech UD overview

The UD has been the top selling commercial undercounter dishwasher in Australia for many years. It shares the 570mm footprint of the Washtech XU and Washtech XD but steps up in three ways: a touchscreen control panel with digital diagnostics and fault alerts, a third 3 minute cycle for heavily soiled loads, and a soft start 0.5HP wash pump. Detergent and rinse aid dosing is adjusted from the touchscreen. It takes racks from 365mm up to the standard 500mm, so existing racks from other machines usually fit. A polish-free version, the UD-R, is available for kitchens with an RO water system.

How the Washtech UD cleans

Independent wash and rinse arms cover the full 500mm rack. Hot Rinse Retention drains dirty wash water during the cycle and replaces it, so dishes are always washed in the hottest, cleanest water available, and the final rinse is 82°C assured, meaning the cycle will not finish until the rinse water has reached sanitising temperature. A stainless steel scrap tray and waste basket give double filtration, and the hands-free drain pump and sump empty the machine without pulling a plug. Auto-drain and self-cleaning cycles can be set from the touchscreen, and the tilting rack slide adjusts to suit what you are loading.

Which Washtech undercounter dishwasher do I need?

The XV, XU, XD and UD are all single phase 240V 15 amp machines using 2.2 litres per cycle with an 82°C rinse. The differences are rack size, chamber height, throughput, controls and detergent.

Touchscreen controls

The UD uses the same professional touchscreen family as the larger Washtech machines: digital diagnostics, fault alerts on screen, and the cycle, chemical dosing, auto-drain and self-clean settings all in one place. It suits kitchens with staff turnover, because there is nothing to learn beyond pressing the cycle you want. What is the difference between the Washtech UD and the Washtech XU?
Same footprint, same 500mm rack, same 2.2 litres per cycle. The UD adds touchscreen controls with diagnostics and fault alerts, a third 3 minute cycle, a soft start wash pump, chemical dosing adjustable from the screen, and a 370mm chamber against the XU's 350mm. The XU is push button and $1,390 less ex GST.

What is the difference between the Washtech UD and the Washtech XD?
The XD is the budget 500mm rack machine: push buttons, solid tablet detergent, and a taller 390mm chamber for GN 1/1 pans. The UD has the touchscreen, soft start pump, three cycles and liquid chemical pumps, and weighs 21kg more. If you wash pans all day, look at the XD. If you want the machine every kitchen knows, it is the UD.

What is soft start?
Soft start powers the wash pump up gradually instead of hitting full power the instant the cycle begins. Most machines switch the pump straight on at full power, which sends a surge of water through the chamber at the start of every cycle. Soft start lets the pump pressurise slowly. All Washtech touchscreen models have it.

What is the advantage of soft start?
The wash does not go from nothing to full power in an instant. Because the pump ramps up, fine crockery and delicate glassware stay where you put them in the rack instead of shifting or tipping over, which is where most breakages happen. It is also gentler on the machine: no jolt at the start of every cycle, and a longer life for the pump.

How does soft start work?
Electronics on the control board increase the voltage to the wash pump gradually up to the full 240V, so the pump comes up to speed over a few seconds rather than all at once.

What rack size does the Washtech UD use?
The international standard 500mm x 500mm rack, the same as the Washtech XU and XD, and it also takes smaller racks down to 365mm. Racks from most other brands fit.

Can the Washtech UD wash glasses as well as dishes?
Yes. It comes with both a cup rack and a dish rack, and the soft start pump is the reason it is kinder to glassware than most dishwashers.

Does the Washtech UD need a hot water connection?
Hot water at 65°C is the ideal supply, through a 3/4 inch male connection at 200 to 500kPa. The UD will run on cold water, it just has to do more of the heating itself, so cycles take longer to reach the 82°C rinse. Drain is a 25mm flexi hose from the built-in drain pump.

How many racks per hour does the Washtech UD wash?
The machine side of the job is 60, 120 or 180 seconds per rack depending on the cycle. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded between cycles, so the rated figure of up to 1,080 plates per hour is the ceiling, not a guarantee.

Does the Washtech UD need three-phase power?
No. It plugs into a standard 15A 240V single phase outlet, so most cafe and restaurant installations need no special electrical work.

Will the Washtech UD fit under a standard bench?
Yes. At 840mm high it fits under a standard 900mm bench with room for the supply hose and drain.

Are detergent and rinse aid pumps included?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are fitted as standard, and the dosing for both is adjusted from the touchscreen.

What comes with the Washtech UD?
The machine, one 500mm dish rack, one 500mm cup rack, a cutlery container, and a quick connection kit with all hoses and the 15A plugset.

Is a polish-free version available?
Yes. The Washtech UD-R is the polish-free version for kitchens with a reverse osmosis water system. It washes in RO water so glasses come out without spots and without hand polishing. The UD-R handles RO water, it does not make it, so an RO unit is needed separately.

Is the Washtech UD WaterMark certified?
Yes. The UD is WaterMark certified and meets health regulations in all Australian states.

Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech UD?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price. Ask if you want one and we will check availability.
