Specifications from the Moffat Australia Washtech XL spec sheet (PDF download).

The Washtech XL is a high speed pass through dishwasher built for volume. It runs a fast 40 second cycle and washes up to 1,620 dishes an hour, driven by a 1.5HP wash pump through stainless steel wash arms and manifold. It takes 500mm and 500 x 600mm racks, so trays and GN pans go through it, uses 2.2 litres of water per cycle and connects to hot water. It runs on 415V three phase, hardwired. $8,380 ex GST. Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.

Best for: High volume restaurants, hotels, hospitals and catering kitchens seating 150 covers or more that need maximum throughput with minimal complexity.

Washtech XL overview

Unlike many pass through machines, the XL uses mains water pressure to power the rinse, so there is no separate rinse booster pump or break tank to install or maintain. That keeps the machine simpler and cheaper to run. It uses Washtech hybrid controls, the same reliable, low cost boards as the rest of the X series, and starts automatically on hood closure. It is the step up from the Washtech XP if you need more speed or trays through the machine. If you want a touchscreen and an assured rinse on the same 600mm rack, the Washtech AL is the professional version.

How the Washtech XL cleans

A 1.5HP wash pump drives the wash through a heavy-duty stainless steel manifold and wash arms, covering racks up to 600mm. The bigger pump moves more water per second, which is what lets the XL run a full wash in 40 seconds. Slide the rack in, pull the hood down and the cycle starts on its own. The rinse is at 82°C, the stainless steel scrap tray and wash and drain filter catch the scraps, and the drain pump empties the machine at the end of service.

Which Washtech pass through do I need?

All four run on hot water. The XP and M2 take 500mm racks and come on a 15A plug. The XL and AL take racks up to 600mm, run faster and are hardwired on three phase.

Simple to use

Pick a 40, 60 or 90 second cycle, slide the rack in and pull the hood down. AutoStart does the rest. Behind the selector is Washtech's hybrid control system: two simple PCB boards, one for cycle timing and one for temperature, so there is less to go wrong and repairs are cheap. The Washtech control families are explained in our Washtech controls guide.

Warranty and support

The Washtech XL is covered by 2 years on site parts and labour from Moffat Australia, with a national service network and spare parts stocked locally. Full details on our warranty page.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes the Washtech XL?
Washtech, in New Zealand. Washtech says the company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage, and is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.

How does the XL compare to the XP?
The Washtech XP is ideal for 100 to 150 seats, the XL can keep up with 200 seat restaurants. The XP has cycle times of 1, 2 or 3 minutes, the XL 40, 60 or 90 seconds. The difference that allows the quicker times is the wash pump: 1HP on the XP against 1.5HP on the XL. The more powerful pump moves more water and allows faster wash cycles. The XL also takes racks up to 600mm, so trays and GN pans go through it. Both share the simple, low cost X series controls. The XL is $2,400 more ex GST.

What is the difference between the Washtech XL and the Washtech AL?
Same 775mm footprint, same 500 to 600mm racks and the same 40, 60 or 90 second cycles. The Washtech AL is the professional version: a touchscreen, EcoPower, a soft start pump, an insulated front hood and an assured rinse with a booster pump, so the rinse does not depend on your water supply. The XL keeps it simple with hybrid controls and rinses straight off the mains.

Does the Washtech XL need an exhaust hood?
On three phase, plan for a canopy over it. If you cannot fit one, talk to us before you buy. The XL can be set up on single phase, or the Washtech XP and Washtech M2 on their 15A plug may not need a hood at all, see Do commercial dishwashers need a hood or a condenser? The Washtech M2C and Washtech ALC have a heat recovery unit built in. Call us on 0412 034948 before you spend money on a hood.

Does the XL need a rinse booster pump?
Not usually. The XL uses mains water pressure and flow to power the rinse. A water supply flow of 20 litres per minute is ideal. If there is slow flow, a rinse booster pump is an option, just let us know with your order.

Does it need an electrician and a plumber?
An electrician will be required. The XL runs on 415V three phase at 15A per phase, 10.8kW, so it is hardwired rather than plugged in. It can also be set up on single phase, 15A at 3.6kW or 25A at 6.1kW, with slower rinse recovery. Tell us before you order which way you want it. The water and chemical hoses come in the supplied connection kit, and the drain hose just needs connecting to a spigot nearby.

What are the hybrid controls on the Washtech XL?
Hybrid is Washtech's name for the X series control system: two simple PCB boards, one for cycle timing and one for temperature. You pick a cycle, slide the rack in and pulling the hood down starts it. There is nothing to program, and the parts are simple and cheap to replace. Our Washtech controls guide compares it with the touchscreen.

What racks does the Washtech XL take?
Standard 500mm x 500mm racks, and 500mm x 600mm racks for trays, sheet pans and GN pans. It comes with a 500 x 600mm tray rack as well as a 500mm dish rack and cup rack.

Does the Washtech XL need a hot water connection?
Yes, hot water at 65°C is the supply it is built for, through a 3/4 inch male connection at 200 to 350kPa. It will run on cold water, it just has to do more of the heating itself, so cycles take longer to reach the 82°C rinse.

What clearance does it need?
Allow 300mm at the front for service access. For corner installs the machine must face left for access to the controls, sit so racks push into the back, and any splashback return should be no higher than 150mm.

What bench gap does the Washtech XL need?
A 640mm bench gap and a 710mm deep bench. It is 775mm wide and 1530mm high with the hood down, with 430mm clearance under the hood.

Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The drain pump is standard, not an extra. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, so there is no gravity drain needed.

How many racks per hour does the Washtech XL wash?
The machine side of the job is 40, 60 or 90 seconds per rack. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded, so the rated figure of up to 1,620 dishes an hour is the ceiling, not a guarantee. At that speed, you need staff on both sides of the machine to keep up with it.

Are detergent and rinse aid pumps included?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are fitted as standard.

What comes with the Washtech XL?
The machine, one 500 x 600mm tray rack (600 70042), one 500mm dish rack (600 70028), one 500mm cup rack (600 70029), a cutlery basket (C660508), a cutlery container (C660503), and a connection kit with all hoses.

How big is the Washtech XL packed?
Packed it is 760mm wide, 820mm deep and 1460mm high, and weighs 141kg. Check your doorways and any stairs before delivery day.

How much is delivery on the Washtech XL?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.

Is the Washtech XL WaterMark approved?
Yes. It has WaterMark approved backflow prevention, using an atmospheric vacuum breaker.

Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech XL?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price. Ask if you want one and we will check availability.
