Specifications from the Moffat Australia Washtech AL spec sheet (PDF download).

The Washtech AL is a high capacity pass through dishwasher that washes up to 1,980 plates an hour, the highest rated pass through in the Washtech range. It runs 40, 60 and 90 second cycles, takes 600 x 500mm racks holding 5 GN pans or up to 22 plates, and drives them with a 1.5HP soft start wash pump. Touchscreen controls, an insulated front hood and an assured 82°C rinse from dual boilers and a booster pump. It uses 2.4 litres of water per cycle, connects to hot water and runs on 415V three phase. $10,280 ex GST. Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.

Best for: High volume kitchens with hot water and a hood already in place that need to move racks fast.

Washtech AL overview

The AL is the professional version of the Washtech XL: same body, same 600mm racks, same cycle times, with Washtech's touchscreen and an assured rinse. The dual boilers and booster pump deliver the rinse at full pressure and temperature every cycle, so the AL does not slow down if your water supply is weak. The insulated front hood keeps the heat in the chamber and off your staff. If you cannot fit a hood, the Washtech ALC is the same machine with a heat recovery unit on top.

How the Washtech AL cleans

A 1.5HP soft start wash pump drives independent stainless steel wash and rinse arms through a heavy-duty stainless steel manifold. The soft start ramps the pump up rather than hitting the load at full power, so trays and crockery stay where they were racked. Slide the rack in and pull the hood down, and AutoStart runs the cycle. Two-stage stainless steel wash and drain filtration keeps the wash water clean, and the sump and drain pump empty the machine at the end of service.

Which Washtech pass through do I need?

The XL, AL and ALC take racks up to 600mm and run on three phase. The M2 is here as the 500mm rack professional machine on a 15A plug.

Touchscreen controls and Heads Up Display

The AL uses Washtech's professional touchscreen: cycle selection, chemical dosing, auto-drain and self-clean on one screen, with faults shown on screen. The Heads Up Display shows what the machine is doing from across the room, and the bracket lets you mount it on either side, under the bench or on the wall. EcoPower stops the heating if the machine sits idle. The Washtech control families are explained in our Washtech controls guide.

Warranty and support

The Washtech AL is covered by 2 years on site parts and labour from Moffat Australia, with a national service network and spare parts stocked locally. Full details on our warranty page.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes the Washtech AL?
Washtech, in New Zealand. Washtech says the company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage, and is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.

How fast is the Washtech AL?
It runs 40, 60 and 90 second cycles and is rated at up to 1,980 plates an hour on the fastest cycle, the highest capacity pass through in the Washtech range. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded, so treat the rated figure as the ceiling. At that speed you need staff on both sides of the machine.

What is the difference between the Washtech AL and the Washtech XL?
Same 775mm body, same 500 to 600mm racks, same 40, 60 or 90 second cycles. The AL is the professional version: a touchscreen with Heads Up Display, EcoPower, a 1.5HP soft start pump, an insulated front hood and an assured rinse from dual boilers and a booster pump, so the rinse does not depend on your water supply. The Washtech XL keeps it simple with hybrid controls and rinses straight off the mains. The AL is $1,900 more ex GST.

What is the difference between the AL and the ALC?
They share the same high capacity body and 1.5HP pump. The AL connects to hot water. The Washtech ALC adds a heat recovery unit on top that captures the steam and preheats the incoming water, so it connects to cold water, and needs no canopy. It is 2025mm high against 1530mm for the AL, and $3,500 more ex GST. Choose the AL if you have hot water and a hood, and look at the ALC if a hood is difficult or expensive to install.

Does the Washtech AL need an exhaust hood?
On three phase, plan for a canopy over it. If you cannot fit one, talk to us before you buy. The Washtech ALC has a heat recovery unit built in, and the Washtech XP and Washtech M2 on their 15A plug may not need a hood at all, see Do commercial dishwashers need a hood or a condenser? Call us on 0412 034948 before you spend money on a hood.

What is an assured rinse?
The AL does not rinse straight off your mains supply. Dual boilers heat the rinse water to 82°C and a booster pump delivers it to the rinse arms at full pressure, and the cycle will not finish until the rinse has reached sanitising temperature. The rinse is the same every cycle, and the AL copes with low inlet temperature, flow or pressure.

Does it need an electrician and a plumber?
An electrician will be required. The AL runs on 415V three phase at 15A per phase, 9kW, so it is hardwired rather than plugged in. The water and chemical hoses come in the supplied plumbing connection kit, and the drain hose just needs connecting to a spigot nearby.

What racks does the Washtech AL take?
Standard 500mm x 500mm racks, and 600 x 500mm racks that hold 5 GN pans or up to 22 plates. It comes with a 600mm GN tray rack as well as a 500mm dish rack and cup rack.

Does the Washtech AL need a hot water connection?
Hot water at 65°C is the supply it is built for, through a 3/4 inch male connection at 100 to 500kPa and 10 litres a minute. Washtech rates it as suitable for low inlet temperature, flow or pressure, because the rinse comes from its own boilers and booster pump.

Can the touchscreen be mounted away from the machine?
Yes. The bracket lets you mount the controls on either side of the machine, under the bench or on the wall.

What is EcoPower?
EcoPower stops heating once the machine senses it has been idle and restarts on the next cycle, so you are not paying to keep water hot through quiet periods.

What clearance does it need?
Allow 300mm at the front for service access. For corner installs, the machine should sit so racks push into the back, and any splashback return should be no higher than 150mm.

What bench gap does the Washtech AL need?
A 640mm bench gap and a 710mm deep bench. It is 775mm wide and 1530mm high with the hood down, with 430mm clearance under the hood.

Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The sump and drain pump are standard. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, so there is no gravity drain needed.

Are detergent and rinse aid pumps included?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are fitted as standard, with dosing set from the touchscreen.

What comes with the Washtech AL?
The machine, one 600mm GN tray rack (600 70042), one 500mm dish rack (600 70028), one 500mm cup rack (600 70029), a cutlery container (C660503), and a plumbing connection kit with the water and chemical hoses.

How big is the Washtech AL packed?
Packed it is 760mm wide, 820mm deep and 1460mm high, and weighs 146kg. Check your doorways and any stairs before delivery day.

How much is delivery on the Washtech AL?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.

Is the Washtech AL WaterMark approved?
Yes. It has WaterMark approved backflow prevention, using an atmospheric vacuum breaker.

Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech AL?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price. Ask if you want one and we will check availability.
