The Washtech ALC is a high capacity pass through dishwasher with an integrated heat recovery unit, so no exhaust canopy is required. It recycles the steam energy to preheat incoming water, washes up to 1,584 plates an hour on 50, 70 and 100 second cycles, and takes 600 x 500mm racks holding GN pans or up to 22 plates. Touchscreen controls, a 1.5HP soft start wash pump, an insulated front hood and an assured 82°C rinse from dual boilers and a booster pump. It runs on cold water at 2.4 litres per cycle and 415V three phase. $13,780 ex GST. Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.

Best for: Busy restaurants, hotels and catering kitchens running trays and high volume where an exhaust canopy is difficult or expensive to install.

Washtech ALC overview

The ALC is the Washtech AL with a heat recovery unit on top, and the highest capacity heat recovery pass through in the Washtech range. Cold water runs through the unit on its way in, the steam from each cycle condenses on it, and the incoming water is preheated at the same time, so the steam stays out of the room. Everything else is the AL: 600mm racks, touchscreen, 1.5HP soft start pump, insulated front hood and an assured rinse. If you only need 500mm racks, the Washtech M2C does the same job for $2,100 less.

How the Washtech ALC cleans

A 1.5HP soft start wash pump drives independent stainless steel wash and rinse arms through a heavy-duty stainless steel manifold, covering racks up to 600mm. Slide the rack in, pull the insulated hood down and AutoStart runs the cycle. Dual boilers and a booster pump deliver the 82°C rinse, and the cycle will not finish until the rinse has reached sanitising temperature. Two-stage stainless steel wash and drain filtration catches the scraps, and the sump and drain pump empty the machine.

Which Washtech heat recovery pass through do I need?

All four have the heat recovery unit and run on cold water and 415V three phase. The differences are rack size, controls, the rinse and the bench gap.

Without heat recovery, the Washtech AL is the same machine on hot water for $10,280 ex GST.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes the Washtech ALC?
Washtech, in New Zealand. Washtech says the company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage, and is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.

Does the ALC need an exhaust canopy?
No. The C in ALC stands for condenser. The integrated heat recovery unit captures the steam at the machine, so no canopy is required, and Moffat has the SEED certification for it on request.

What is the difference between the Washtech ALC and the AL?
They share the same high capacity body, 600mm racks, touchscreen, 1.5HP soft start pump and assured rinse. The Washtech AL connects to hot water and needs a canopy over it on three phase. The ALC adds a heat recovery unit on top that captures the steam and preheats the incoming water, so it connects to cold water and needs no canopy. The ALC runs 50, 70 and 100 second cycles against 40, 60 and 90 on the AL, is 2025mm high, and is $3,500 more ex GST. Choose the AL if you already have hot water and a hood, and the ALC if a hood is difficult or expensive to install.

What is the difference between the Washtech ALC and the M2C?
Both are heat recovery pass throughs with a touchscreen and an assured rinse. The Washtech M2C takes 500mm racks and does up to 1,080 plates an hour on a 595 to 640mm bench gap. The ALC takes 600 x 500mm racks for trays and GN pans, has a 1.5HP pump and does up to 1,584 plates an hour on a 640mm bench gap, for $2,100 more ex GST.

How fast is it?
It runs 50, 70 and 100 second cycles and washes up to 1,584 plates an hour at the fastest cycle, which makes it suited to high volume pass through washing rather than light duty. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded, so treat the rated figure as the ceiling.

How does the heat recovery unit work?
Cold water feeds through the heat recovery unit on its way into the machine. The steam from each cycle condenses on it, which takes the steam out of the air and preheats the incoming water at the same time, cutting the energy needed to bring cold water up to temperature.

What does SEED certification mean?
SEED stands for Sustainable by Engineering, Environment by Design. Moffat can supply the full SEED details and certification for the ALC on request, which is the paperwork a certifier or council will ask for.

What is an assured rinse?
The ALC does not rinse straight off your water supply. Dual boilers heat the rinse water to 82°C and a booster pump delivers it to the rinse arms, and the cycle will not finish until the rinse has reached sanitising temperature, so the rinse is the same every cycle.

Does it need an electrician and a plumber?
An electrician will be required. The ALC runs on 415V three phase power at 15A per phase, 12.3kW, so it is hardwired rather than plugged in. The water side is simpler, since the water and chemical hoses come in the supplied plumbing connection kit, and the drain hose just needs connecting to a spigot nearby.

What water supply does the Washtech ALC need?
Cold water under 25°C through a 3/4 inch male connection, at 100 to 500kPa and 10 litres a minute.

What racks does the Washtech ALC take?
Standard 500mm x 500mm racks, and 600 x 500mm racks that hold GN pans or up to 22 plates per rack.

What clearance does it need?
Allow 300mm at the front for service access. For corner installs, the machine should sit so racks push into the back, and any splashback return should be no higher than 150mm. The touchscreen bracket lets you mount the controls on either side, under the bench or on the wall. It is 2025mm high including the heat recovery unit, so check your ceiling height.

Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The sump and drain pump are standard. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, so there is no gravity drain needed.

Are detergent and rinse aid pumps included?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are fitted as standard, with dosing set from the touchscreen.

What comes with the Washtech ALC?
The machine, one 600mm GN tray rack (600 70042), one 500mm dish rack (600 70028), one 500mm cup rack (600 70029), a cutlery container (C660503), and a plumbing connection kit with the water and chemical hoses.

How big is the Washtech ALC packed?
