Specifications from the Moffat Australia Washtech M1C spec sheet (PDF download).
The Washtech M1C is a compact heat condensing pass through dishwasher with a SEED certified heat recovery unit on top, which Moffat sells as suitable for installation without an extraction canopy in many situations. It takes 450mm x 450mm racks, fits a 510mm bench gap and a 600 to 700mm deep bench, and washes up to 840 dishes or 960 glasses an hour on 60, 120 or 180 second cycles. It runs on cold water at 2.4 litres per cycle and 415V three phase, with a touchscreen and an assured 82°C rinse. $10,580 ex GST. Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.
Best for: Smaller hospitals, aged care, schools and government sites where SEED certification is required, or any tight kitchen that cannot fit an exhaust canopy.
Washtech M1C overview
The M1C is the same footprint as the Washtech XM, with a heat recovery unit on top and the touchscreen, soft start pump and assured rinse of Washtech's professional range. The condenser captures the steam that would otherwise roll out every time the hood lifts, which keeps the room cooler and is why it can often go in without a canopy. If you need a bigger rack or more throughput, the Washtech M2C and Washtech ALC are the 500mm heat recovery machines.
How the heat recovery unit works
Cold water feeds through the heat recovery unit on its way into the machine. The steam from each cycle condenses on it, which takes the steam out of the air and preheats the incoming water at the same time. That cuts steam emissions and the energy needed to bring cold water up to wash and rinse temperature.
How the Washtech M1C cleans
A 1.0HP soft start wash pump drives independent stainless steel wash and rinse arms through a heavy-duty stainless steel manifold. Slide the rack in, pull the hood down and the cycle starts on its own. The assured rinse uses a rinse pump to deliver the 82°C rinse, and the cycle will not finish until the rinse has reached sanitising temperature. Two-stage stainless steel wash and drain filtration catches the scraps, and the sump and drain pump empty the machine.
Which Washtech heat recovery pass through do I need?
The M1C, M2C and ALC all have the SEED certified heat recovery unit, run on cold water and 415V three phase, and have touchscreen controls. The differences are rack size, throughput and bench gap. The XM is here for comparison as the M1C without heat recovery.

Simple to use
The touchscreen Heads Up Display puts cycle selection, chemical dosing, auto-drain and self-clean settings on one screen, with faults shown on screen. The bracket lets you mount it on either side of the machine, under the bench or on the wall. AutoStart runs the cycle as soon as the hood comes down. The Washtech control families are explained in our Washtech controls guide.
Warranty and support
The Washtech M1C is covered by 2 years on site parts and labour from Moffat Australia, with a national service network and spare parts stocked locally. Full details on our warranty page.
Frequently asked questions
Who makes the Washtech M1C?
Washtech, in New Zealand. Washtech says the company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage, and is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.
Does the Washtech M1C need an exhaust hood?
Moffat sells the M1C as suitable for installation without an extraction canopy in many situations, because the SEED certified condenser on top captures the steam from each cycle. The final say on your site sits with your council or building certifier, so check with them before you rule a canopy out.
What does SEED certification mean?
SEED stands for Sustainable by Engineering, Environment by Design. It means the M1C has been independently tested to comply with the Australian Standards listed in the National Construction Code 2016. For hospitals, aged care, schools and government sites where NCC compliance is a procurement requirement, SEED certification is the documentation you need.
Why does the M1C run on cold water and three phase?
The M1C connects to cold water, which runs through the heat recovery unit to absorb the steam from the wash and preheat the incoming water. Because it starts from cold and has to reach wash and rinse temperature, it needs the heating capacity of 415V three phase. Your electrician makes the connection.
What is the difference between the Washtech M1C and the Washtech XM?
Same size machine, 655mm wide on a 450mm rack and 510mm bench gap, and the same rated 840 dishes an hour. The M1C adds the heat recovery unit, a touchscreen, a soft start pump and an assured rinse, and runs on cold water and three phase. The Washtech XM runs on hot water from a 15A plug, has hybrid controls, and is $4,600 less ex GST. If you can fit a canopy, the XM. If you cannot, the M1C.
What is the difference between the Washtech M1C and the M2C?
Both are heat recovery pass throughs with the same SEED certified condenser, cold water feed and touchscreen. The M1C is the compact one: 450mm racks, up to 840 dishes an hour and a 510mm bench gap. The Washtech M2C takes 500mm racks, does up to 1,080 dishes an hour, needs a 595 to 640mm bench gap and is $1,100 more ex GST. Choose the M1C if space is tight or volume is lower.
What water flow does the Washtech M1C need?
The spec sheet calls for 10 litres a minute of cold water under 25°C, at 100 to 500kPa, through a 3/4 inch male connection. The assured rinse uses a rinse pump, so the rinse does not depend on your water pressure.
What clearance does the M1C need?
Allow 300mm at the front for service access. For corner installs, the machine should sit so racks push into the back, and any splashback return should be no higher than 150mm. The touchscreen bracket lets you mount the controls on either side, under the bench or on the wall.
Will the Washtech M1C fit my bench?
It needs a 510mm bench gap and suits a bench depth of 600 to 700mm. It is 655mm wide, 660mm deep and 2030mm high including the heat recovery unit, so check your ceiling height, with 430mm clearance under the hood.
Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The sump and drain pump are standard. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, so there is no gravity drain needed.
How many racks per hour does the Washtech M1C wash?
The machine side of the job is 60, 120 or 180 seconds per rack. Real throughput depends on how quickly racks are loaded and unloaded, so the rated figure of up to 840 dishes or 960 glasses an hour is the ceiling, not a guarantee.
Does the Washtech M1C save power?
Yes. The heat recovery unit uses the steam from each cycle to preheat the incoming cold water, and EcoPower drops temperatures and stops heating if the machine sits idle, so you are not paying to keep water hot through quiet periods.
Are detergent and rinse aid pumps included?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are fitted as standard, with dosing set from the touchscreen.
What comes with the Washtech M1C?
The machine, two 450mm dish racks (600 70081), one 450mm cup rack (600 70080), a cutlery container (C660503), and a connection kit with the water and chemical hoses.
How big is the Washtech M1C packed?
Packed it is 695mm wide, 750mm deep and 1970mm high, and weighs 101kg. Check your doorways and any stairs before delivery day.
How much is delivery on the Washtech M1C?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.
Is the Washtech M1C WaterMark approved?
Yes. It has WaterMark approved backflow prevention, using an atmospheric vacuum breaker.
Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech M1C?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price. Ask if you want one and we will check availability.
