Specifications from the Moffat Australia Washtech AL8 spec sheet (PDF download).

The Washtech AL8 is a pass through warewasher and potwasher for kitchens that need one machine to wash both dishes and pots. The wash chamber is 700mm wide, 540mm deep and 650mm high, so it takes gastronorm pans, pots, trays, bins and crates as well as 500mm and 600mm racks. It runs 1, 3 and 5 minute cycles with a 2.0HP wash pump and an assured 82°C rinse, uses 2.6 litres of water per cycle and runs on 415V three phase. $12,180 ex GST. Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.

Best for: Hotels, hospitals, aged care, schools, canteens and high volume kitchens that need a single machine to wash pots, pans and trays as well as crockery and racks.

Washtech AL8 overview

A dishwasher hood clears about 430mm. Pots, sheet pans and crates need more. The AL8 lifts on a counter-sprung hood to 650mm and opens into a 700mm wide chamber, so the big gear goes through the same machine as the plates, loaded inline from the bench. The longer cycles and 2.0HP pump deal with baked-on soil, and the rinse pump assures the rinse even on a weak water supply. If you cannot fit a canopy, the Washtech AL8C is the same machine with a heat recovery unit on top.

How the Washtech AL8 cleans

A 2.0HP wash pump drives independent stainless steel wash and rinse arms through a heavy-duty stainless steel manifold, top and bottom. Choose a 1 minute cycle for racks of crockery, or 3 or 5 minutes for heavily soiled pots and trays. AutoStart runs the cycle as soon as the hood comes down. The rinse pump delivers the 82°C rinse, two-stage stainless steel wash and drain filtration keeps the wash water clean, and the sump and drain pump empty the machine at the end of service.

Which Washtech do I need?

The AL is the high capacity dishwasher. The AL8 and AL8C are the pass through warewashers for pots and trays.

Simple to use

Pick a cycle, slide the rack in and pull the counter-sprung hood down. AutoStart does the rest. The AL8 uses Washtech's hybrid controls, the same simple PCB boards as the X series, so any staff member can run it and repairs are cheap. The Washtech control families are explained in our Washtech controls guide.

Warranty and support

The Washtech AL8 is covered by 2 years on site parts and labour from Moffat Australia, with a national service network and spare parts stocked locally. Full details on our warranty page.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes the Washtech AL8?
Washtech, in New Zealand. Washtech says the company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage, and is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.

Can the Washtech AL8 wash pots and pans as well as dishes?
Yes. The AL8 is built to handle both. The 700mm wide, 540mm deep and 650mm high wash chamber takes gastronorm pans, pots, trays, bins and crates as well as standard 500mm and 600mm racks, so one machine does the dishes and the pots.

What size pots and pans fit in the AL8?
Anything that fits the 700 x 540 x 650mm chamber and clears the 650mm door opening. That covers GN pans, sheet pans, trays and most stockpots. If you have a particular pot in mind, send us its size and we will check it.

What is the difference between the Washtech AL8 and the AL?
The Washtech AL is a high capacity dishwasher with 430mm clearance under the hood, built for racks of plates moving fast. The AL8 is a warewasher: 650mm clearance and a 700mm wide chamber for pots, trays and crates, a 2.0HP pump and longer 1, 3 and 5 minute cycles for heavy soil. If it is mostly plates, the AL. If it is pots and trays as well, the AL8.

Does the Washtech AL8 need an exhaust hood?
Plan for a canopy over it. If one is not an option, the Washtech AL8C is the condenser version: the heat recovery unit captures the steam at the machine, so it needs no canopy. Call us on 0412 034948 before you decide.

What power does the AL8 require?
415V three phase, hardwired, with no lead or plug supplied. It comes set up at 15A per phase, 10.5kW, and can be changed to 25A, 18kW, which removes the wash and rinse heating interlock for faster recovery. Washtech recommends 25A if you run it on cold water. This is not a single phase machine. Your electrician makes the connection.

What is an assured rinse?
The AL8 does not rinse straight off your mains supply. It has a rinse pump that delivers the 82°C rinse at a consistent pressure every cycle, so it copes with a low flow water supply.

What are the hybrid controls on the Washtech AL8?
Hybrid is Washtech's name for the X series control system: two simple PCB boards, one for cycle timing and one for temperature. Pick a cycle, load the rack and pull the counter-sprung hood down to start. There is nothing to program, and the parts are simple and cheap to replace. Our Washtech controls guide explains it.

What water supply does the Washtech AL8 need?
Hot water at 65°C through a 3/4 inch male connection, at 100 to 500kPa and 10 litres a minute. Washtech rates it as suitable for low flow supplies.

What bench gap does the Washtech AL8 need?
A 795mm bench gap and a bench depth of 700 to 750mm. It is 860mm wide, 760mm deep and 1745mm high with the hood down, and the hood lifts to give 650mm clearance into the chamber.

Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The sump and drain pump are standard. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, so there is no gravity drain needed.

Are detergent and rinse aid pumps included?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are fitted as standard.

What comes with the Washtech AL8?
The machine, one 600 x 600mm tray rack (600 70042), one 600 x 600mm base rack (600 70043), a 435mm cup cover (K0452), a cutlery basket (C660508), a cutlery container (C660503), and a connection kit with the water and chemical hoses and drain. There is no lead or plug, as it is hardwired.

How big is the Washtech AL8 packed?
Packed it is 1000mm wide, 910mm deep and 1650mm high, and weighs 180kg. It is a big machine, so check your doorways and any stairs before delivery day.

How much is delivery on the Washtech AL8?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.

Is the Washtech AL8 WaterMark approved?
Yes. It has WaterMark approved backflow prevention, using an atmospheric vacuum breaker.

Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech AL8?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price. Ask if you want one and we will check availability.
