Specifications from the Moffat Australia Washtech AL8C spec sheet (PDF download).

The Washtech AL8C is a pass through warewasher and potwasher with an integrated heat recovery unit, so no exhaust canopy is required. The C stands for condenser. The 700mm wide, 540mm deep and 650mm high chamber takes gastronorm pans, pots, trays, bins and crates as well as 500mm and 600mm racks. It runs 80, 200 and 320 second cycles with a 2.0HP wash pump, hybrid controls and an assured 82°C rinse, uses 2.4 litres per cycle and runs on 415V three phase. $18,380 ex GST. Made in New Zealand by Washtech, distributed and serviced in Australia by Moffat.

Best for: Hotels, hospitals, aged care, schools and high volume kitchens that need one machine for pots, trays and crockery, where an exhaust canopy is difficult or expensive to install.

Washtech AL8C overview

The AL8C is the condenser version of the Washtech AL8. It keeps the big chamber, the 650mm clearance, the 2.0HP pump and the assured rinse, and adds a heat recovery unit on top that captures the steam from every cycle at the machine. That matters more on a potwasher than on a dishwasher: long cycles on heavy pots put a lot of steam into the room. The controls are the same simple hybrid boards as the AL8. If it is mostly plates and you need heat recovery, the Washtech ALC is the high capacity dishwasher version.

How the heat recovery unit works

The AL8C has two water feeds on separate solenoids. The fill solenoid fills the tank from hot water, so the wash is up to temperature quickly at start up. The rinse solenoid takes cold water, which runs through the heat recovery unit on its way in, the steam from each cycle condenses on it, and the incoming water is preheated at the same time. That keeps the steam out of the room and cuts the energy needed to heat the rinse. Moffat can supply the SEED certification on request.

How the Washtech AL8C cleans

A 2.0HP wash pump drives independent stainless steel wash and rinse arms through a heavy-duty stainless steel manifold, top and bottom. Choose the 80 second cycle for racks of crockery, or 200 or 320 seconds for heavily soiled pots and trays. The cycle times can be changed if your loads need it. The rinse pump delivers the 82°C rinse, two-stage stainless steel wash and drain filtration keeps the wash water clean, and the sump and drain pump empty the machine at the end of service.

Which Washtech do I need?

The ALC is the high capacity heat recovery dishwasher. The AL8 and AL8C are the pass through warewashers for pots and trays.

Simple to use

Pick a cycle, slide the rack in and pull the counter-sprung hood down. AutoStart does the rest. The AL8C uses Washtech's hybrid controls, the same simple PCB boards as the AL8 and the X series, so any staff member can run it and repairs are cheap. The Washtech control families are explained in our Washtech controls guide.

Warranty and support

The Washtech AL8C is covered by 2 years on site parts and labour from Moffat Australia, with a national service network and spare parts stocked locally. Full details on our warranty page.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes the Washtech AL8C?
Washtech, in New Zealand. Washtech says the company started in 1981 as Wash Systems Limited, building its first undercounter dishwasher in a single car garage, and is now the largest manufacturer of professional dishwashing equipment in Australasia. Moffat distributes and services Washtech in Australia.

Does the AL8C need an exhaust canopy?
No. The C in AL8C stands for condenser. The integrated heat recovery unit captures the steam at the machine, so no canopy is required, and Moffat has the SEED certification for it on request.

What is the difference between the Washtech AL8C and the AL8?
Same 700mm wide chamber, 650mm clearance, 2.0HP pump, assured rinse and 795mm bench gap. The AL8C adds the heat recovery unit on top, so it needs no canopy, and keeps the same simple hybrid controls. It takes a cold water feed for the rinse as well as hot water for the fill, runs 80, 200 and 320 second cycles, and stands 2035mm high against 1745mm. The Washtech AL8 needs a canopy over it and is $6,200 less ex GST.

Can the Washtech AL8C wash pots and pans as well as dishes?
Yes. The 700mm wide, 540mm deep and 650mm high chamber takes gastronorm pans, pots, trays, bins and crates as well as 500mm and 600mm racks, so one machine does the dishes and the pots.

What size pots and pans fit in the AL8C?
Anything that fits the 700 x 540 x 650mm chamber and clears the 650mm door opening. That covers GN pans, sheet pans, trays and most stockpots. If you have a particular pot in mind, send us its size and we will check it.

Can the cycle times on the AL8C be changed?
Yes. It comes set at 80, 200 and 320 seconds, and the cycle times can be changed if your loads need it. Tell us what you are washing and we will tell you what to set.

What water supply does the AL8C need?
Two connections, each on its own solenoid. A dedicated fill solenoid fills the tank from hot water at 65°C, which saves time getting the wash up to temperature at start up. A separate rinse solenoid takes cold water under 25°C through the heat recovery unit for the rinse. Both are 3/4 inch male with hoses supplied, at 100 to 500kPa and 10 litres a minute. Washtech rates it as suitable for low flow supplies.

How does the heat recovery unit work?
The cold water feed runs through the heat recovery unit on its way into the machine. The steam from each cycle condenses on it, which takes the steam out of the air and preheats the incoming water at the same time.

What does SEED certification mean?
SEED stands for Sustainable by Engineering, Environment by Design. Moffat can supply the full SEED details and certification for the AL8C on request, which is the paperwork a certifier or council will ask for.

What power does the AL8C require?
415V three phase, hardwired, with no lead or plug supplied. It runs at 15A per phase, 10.5kW, or 25A per phase, 18kW, for faster recovery. Tell us before you order which way you want it. This is not a single phase machine. Your electrician makes the connection.

What is an assured rinse?
The AL8C does not rinse straight off your mains supply. A rinse pump delivers the 82°C rinse at a consistent pressure every cycle, so it copes with a low flow water supply.

What are the hybrid controls on the Washtech AL8C?
Hybrid is Washtech's name for the X series control system: two simple PCB boards, one for cycle timing and one for temperature. Pick a cycle, load the rack and pull the counter-sprung hood down to start. There is nothing to program, and the parts are simple and cheap to replace. Our Washtech controls guide explains it.

What bench gap does the Washtech AL8C need?
A 795mm bench gap. It is 860mm wide, 760mm deep and 2035mm high including the heat recovery unit, so check your ceiling height. The hood lifts to give 650mm clearance into the chamber.

Is the drain pump built in?
Yes. The sump and drain pump are standard. It drains through a 25mm flexi hose, so there is no gravity drain needed.

Are detergent and rinse aid pumps included?
Yes. Dual chemical pumps are fitted as standard, set up on install.

What comes with the Washtech AL8C?
The machine, one 600mm tray rack (600 70042), one 600mm base rack (600 70043), a 435mm cup cover (K0452), a cutlery basket (C660508), a cutlery container (C660503), and a connection kit with the water, drain and chemical hoses. There is no lead or plug, as it is hardwired.

How big is the Washtech AL8C packed?
Packed it is 1000mm wide, 910mm deep and 1970mm high, and weighs 203kg. It is a big machine, so check your doorways, ceiling heights and any stairs before delivery day.

How much is delivery on the Washtech AL8C?
Delivery is typically $120 plus GST. Use the Freight Cost Guide button on this page for the exact price to your postcode, including whether a tailgate is needed.

Is the Washtech AL8C WaterMark approved?
Yes. It has WaterMark approved backflow prevention, using an atmospheric vacuum breaker.

Can I get a scratch and dent Washtech AL8C?
Sometimes. Moffat occasionally has units with freight damage or ex-display units at a reduced price. Ask if you want one and we will check availability.
